A high-profile business located in the University plaza in Vestal is move to another location in Broome County, making way for development of more student housing and the addition of some new jobs.

New York State Electric and Gas has announced it is contracting with Nationwide Credit, Incorporated locally to handle credit collections for NYSEG and Rochester Electric and Gas.

NCI will be moving from Vestal to Clark Street in Endicott and said last year it was adding 300 jobs.

NYSEG says 180 of the new jobs come from the move of the utilities’ collections from North Carolina and Ohio to the Endicott operations.

The initial deal with NYSEG and RG&E’s parent company Iberdrola is for the call center operations to be locked in at Endicott for three years.

While NCI moves across the river to Endicott, officials with Newman Development say the expansion of student housing at the site on the Vestal Plaza, called Metroplex at UP, will be started this year using the former AIG 21st Century site with a smaller townhouse development at the NCI space.

Officials with the Newman Group say it’s expected demolition of the existing structures will begin in the spring.

The expansion project will provide housing for another 800 students in Vestal.
