Byrne Dairy to Open Yogurt Plant in Cortland County

The rapidly growing yogurt industry is expanding again in the region.

Syracuse-based Byrne Dairy has announced a plan to open a new manufacturing plant and agritourism center in Cortland County.

Byrne says it is looking to purchase the Finger Lakes East Industrial Park in Cortlandville and hopes to begin construction next year.

The company says the project will mean 70 new jobs but will have wider economic impact since Byrne will be using milk from New York State farms in the manufacture of its yogurt.

Chobani operates a yogurt factory in Chenango County.
