A late night party above a Binghamton restaurant is responsible for a long night for City Police and the Fire Department.

Officials say a reveler at a party in a third floor apartment above Burger Monday’s at the corner of Henry and State Streets decided to swing on the sprinkler pipe, which broke, flooding the building at around 12 a.m. April 15.

A couple dozen or more tenants and guests at the estimated 100 apartments in the building were evacuated.

The fire department was busy pumping out the basement and water damage was reported to at least the restaurant kitchen area.

Police units and crime tape remained around the building early into the morning to protect the residents’ property inside.
