Seat belt laws apply in New York State Parks as well as on roads and highways in the state.

New York State Police are launching an effort to concentrate on compliance in the parks.  The State Police are partnering with the New York State Parks Police for Buckle Up New York Summer Parks Initiative statewide starting July 13.

The effort will focus on seat belt use and child passenger safety violations at state parks.

Troop C Acting Commander Eric Janis says many of the 60 million guests who visit the state's parks include families with improperly restrained young children.  According to a statement from Troop C: "Diligent enforcement, high visibility and education will be the key to reversing this trend."
