The Binghamton Bearcats women's basketball team remains in contention for first place in America East as they defeated the Vermont Catamounts 52-38 at the Events Center last night. The Bearcats up their America East record to 9-4 with three games left in the regular season.   Maine is now 11-3, Albany is 10-3 and the Bearcats are right behind at 9-4.

With the win the Bearcats have won three straight and up their overall record to 18-8.  Vermont falls to 5-8 in the conference and 8-19overall.  The win did not come easily.  BU had to battle poor shooting to take a 25-16 lead at the half.  The Bearcats shot just 26 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes and ended up making 37 percent of their shots in the game.  Vermont also struggled hitting just 24 percent of their field goal attempts.

Imani Watkins led BU with 16 points and now is just two points away from tying the school record for career points.  That standard was set by Bess Greenberg with 2,024 total points.  Watkins' next shot at breaking the record is Saturday afternoon when BU hosts UMass Lowell at 4 PM at the Events Center.
