Broome Transit could be in for some upgrades under the new federal Transportation Bill.

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer told leaders gathered in Vestal that the county can apply for funding to replace some of its outdated bus fleet.

Thousands of riders a year rely on the public transportation system to get to work and medical appointments.

BC Transit is looking to get six buses over the next five years. The County says it needs another four buses a year as well at a cost of $9 million.

The federal transportation measure provides about $16.3 billion in funding for New York State’s infrastructure over the next five years.
