Roger Neel/WNBF News [April 24, 2014][/caption]Broome County Executive Debra Preston says her treatment for lung cancer has taken a bit of an unexpected turn.

The Republican made a surprise appearance at a news conference May 30 that had been called to unveil details of the 30th annual Spiedie Fest and Balloon Rally, to give a quick update on her health.

Preston says surgery earlier this month in New York City was more intense and invasive than expected.

While the surgery went well, Preston says because the tumor turned out to be so large, doctors have recommended some chemotherapy for a while as a precautionary measure.

Preston is continuing to work from home and says she is in constant contact with her staff.

Preston announced in April that she had been diagnosed with lung cancer.
