Schools of higher education in Broome County are bringing millions of dollars into the local economy.

SUNY Broome Community College President Kevin Drumm told a gathering of local business leaders that many people in the community don’t realize the economic impact of the local University and colleges.

Drumm says Binghamton University, SUNY Broome and Davis College together are having a $1.5 billion impact on the Southern Tier and that doesn’t even factor in Binghamton University's planned development of a pharmacy school near Wilson Hospital in Johnson City.

Binghamton University has already expanded its presence in Downtown Binghamton through the Downtown BU Center and there continues to be growing development of student housing in the downtown district.
