More adults in the Southern Tier seem to be supporting stronger rules to limit where tobacco ads are placed to curb smoking among young people.

According to the annual Broome and Tioga County Community Tobacco Survey by Tobacco Free Broome and Tioga, most favor a policy that will ban the sale of tobacco at stores located near schools and ban ads for tobacco on social media sites geared toward young people.

The study found 56 percent of respondents in Broome County believe e-cigarettes are harmful. 46 percent in Tioga County shared that view.  While Broome residents said they saw harm in vaping, the survey showed a significant increase in the use of the products in the county.
