The Broome Sports Foundation is holding its annual sports memorabilia and collectibles auction tonight (Saturday) at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena. The silent auction is being held in the concourse before, during and after the Devils home game versus Belleville.

The Broome Sports Foundation was founded during the Binghamton Whalers era to serve as the charitable arm of the hockey club. Over decades of service the Foundation has participated in a number of charitable and community service projects. The major project of the group is fund-raising for the Tommy Mitchell Memorial Scholarship Fund. Over $200,000 in scholarship money has been raised over the years. Scholarships are awarded through a panel of judges and go to outstanding student athletes who are looking to further their education. The Tommy Mitchell Scholarship was established in memory of Tommy Mitchell, a standout youth hockey player, who was tragically killed on the way to a youth hockey game.

As in past auctions the selection of items up for bid is wide and varied. There are dozens of autographed items including photographs from various teams available. For sports fans or someone looking for a special gift for the collector in your life tonight is the perfect opportunity to act and help a great cause.
