The Broome Sports Foundation awarded eight Tommy Mitchell Memorial Scholarships in ceremonies before tonight's Binghamton Senators versus Norfolk Admirals game at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.  Each scholarship is in the amount of $1,500.

The scholarships are awarded in memory of Tommy Mitchell who was tragically killed in an auto accident while on the way to a youth hockey game.  The scholarships are awarded to outstanding student athletes who will be attending college and who have participated in youth hockey.  The Broome Sports Foundation raises money through memorabilia and collectibles auctions and jersey raffles.

This year's winners include:

Joseph Eiskant, Freshman at Nazareth College; Robert Wassel, Freshman at Ithaca College; Andrew Schutt, Freshman at State University st Oswego; Jake Barney, Graduating Senior at Vestal; Nicholas Nestleroade, Graduating Senior at Vestal; William O'Shea, Graduating Senior at Binghamton; Colin Szymanski, Freshman at Clarkson and Benjamin Bruns, Graduating Senior at Vestal.  Bruns is the recipient of the 6th Annual Peg Waffle/Tommy Mitchell Scholarship.
