Broome County Sheriff David Harder may be having a change of heart.

At the last election, the Republican said it would be his last term as Sheriff.  But when Harder was asked if he had any preference of a candidate to run to fill the job he replied he was actually seriously thinking about changing his mind and running for another term.

The 74 year old was first elected Sheriff in 1998.

Just last year, it was assumed that Fred Akshar would run to replace Harder as Sheriff, shortly after Akshar was appointed Undersheriff.  Those plans changed when Akshar accepted the call to run for state office and was elected to the New York State Senate.

There have been no potential candidates stepping forward at this point to publicly indicate they want the job. But some insiders said there were at least two prospects being discussed.  The source declined naming who those potential candidates would be.
