Broome Shares in State Gun Violence Prevention Funds
Broome County is among 17 counties in New York State to share $13.2 million to reduce gun violence under the state’s Gun Involve Violence Elimination or (GIVE) program.
Broome is being allocated just under $400,000 to help police reduce shooting incidents.
The recipients of the largest amount of funding are Erie and Monroe Counties, each getting over $1.6 million.
Governor Andrew Cuomo says the GIVE initiative focuses on communities outside of New York City that collectively report 86% of the violent crime in New York State.
