Dozens of people gathered in downtown Binghamton for a "National Day of Prayer" observance. The day had been designated in a proclamation issued by President Obama.

The May 7 program was held at the Broome County Courthouse on Court Street.

The event was organized by Charles Kark, the director of Path of Life Camp in Port Crane,

Kark, a former town supervisor and county legislator, said it had been many years since a local observance had been held of the day of prayer.

Kark said he worked for the past couple of months to organize the program of prayer.

During the program, prayers were offered for local, state, federal and global concerns.

Kark said he hopes the Broome County celebration event will be held every year.
