A two-year-old program in Broome County seeks to help students achieve academic success through a variety of supports.

Speaking on the September 3 edition of the weekly local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up, Broome Community Project Director Heidi Mikeska talks about the Broome County Promise Zone.

Mikeska says events like recent family fun nights in area parks help to promote self esteem and confidence needed to succeed in school and build family support systems.

Broome County Promise Zone is a collaboration of the Broome County Mental Health Department, Broome-Tioga BOCES and Binghamton University.

Southern Tier Close Up airs Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
