Vireo Health of New York officials had indicated they were aiming to start operations at the site at 589 Harry L. Drive as soon as the state allowed the legal distribution of the drug to start.

A spokesman for the company said a Vireo Health dispensary in White Plains is set to open on Thursday.

The spokesman was unable to provide target dates for the Johnson City location or two other Vireo Health dispensaries that are being permitted.

In an emailed statement, he said: "We are working around the clock with our contractors, local authorities and the New York State Department of Health" to open the dispensaries as soon as possible.

A visit Tuesday morning to the Harry L. Drive building where the dispensary is planned revealed some construction had started. But it appeared a significant amount of work remained to be done before the facility could become operational.

The dispensary will be located on the northeast corner of Reynolds Road and Harry L. Drive, across from the Oakdale Mall.
