Future Broome County Legislators could soon be making more money for their part-time elected positions.

The lawmakers voted nine to four, with two legislators absent, to amend the county charter, the would link the legislative and non-union employee salary rates to the negotiated contracts with the Civil Service Employee’s Association union.

A public hearing still needs to be held before a possible pay raise bill would go before the county executive.

An earlier proposal to raise Executive Debra Preston’s salary had been rejected but approval of the latest proposal could also mean increased for the executive, elections commissioners, county clerk, administration staff, county sheriff and some positions in the county attorney’s office.
