Broome County legislator John Black has announced he's resigning his seat as he prepares to become a Town of Union Justice.

The Endwell Republican has been appointed by the town board to succeed Thomas Dellapenna Jr. Dellapenna resigned as justice last month to become the county risk and insurance manager.

The legislature will appoint a Republican to succeed Black as the Eighth District representative.

Black was first elected to the legislature seven years ago. His resignation is to take effect November 18.
