$250,000 in New York State funding to go to treatment of drug addiction in underserved areas of the state announced Tuesday by the Governor is being channeled to new family navigator and peer advocate positions in Broome County.

The new staff will connect patients in hospital emergency departments to addiction treatment and provide support for families of addicts.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced a $1 million to go to fight addiction in areas like the Southern Tier, Finger Lakes, North Country and Western New York.

The local funds have been awarded to the Addiction Center of Broome County for the new services that are expected to be available by June 1st.
