The Broome County Health Department will hold a series of flu clinics for residents over the next several weeks.

Department immunization nurse Sue Blythe says a clinic schedule will be released soon.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Blythe said everyone one older than six months should be vaccinated so they'll be protected during the flu season.

Flu shots have been available for several weeks at many pharmacies in the region.

Blythe said the vaccine represents the best defense against influenza.

It takes two weeks after vaccination for a person's body to build up the antibodies needed to protect against the flu.

There's more information about influenza on the Broome County Health Department website.
