New York State officials say Broome Developmental Center in the town of Dickinson will be closed in less than three years.

The Glenwood Road facility employs nearly 700 people and serves 166 people.

The center is scheduled to close by the end of March 2016.

It's one of four institutions the state intends to shut down.

The other sites to be closed are in Schenectady, Queens and Brooklyn.

The closures were announced late Friday.

State Senator Thomas Libous, a Binghamton Republican, said he's not pleased with the plan to close the Broome County center.
