Broome Debates Local Ban on Bath Salts

Preliminary talks are underway in Broome County to enact a local ban on synthetic drugs known as bath salts.County legislators February 11th began committee talks on a proposal from Republican Legislator Matthew Pasquale.  The proposal is similar to a New York State law banning the sale or possession of bath salts.

Local law enforcement officials and prosecutors say enforcing thte current state law has already proved difficult since it specifies ingredients used in the manufacture of the synthetic drugs. Those  ingredients could be easily varied, putting the finished substance out of the parameter of the law.
