Broome County woman is dead after being hit by a train Saturday evening near East Main Street and Hooper Road in Endwell.

New York State Police say a Canadian Pacific train was traveling east at around 6 p.m. when operators saw someone laying on the tracks behind ABC Lumber on Pearl Street.

Investigators say several warning signals were sounded, but the woman did not leave the tracks.

The engineer applied the brakes but was unable to stop before hitting 38 year old Holly Nalepa.

The train operator immediately called 911.

Investigators say Nalepa’s current address was listed as the YWCA in Binghamton.

Officials say an autopsy is scheduled.

The incident is still under investigation.
