County Executive Debra Preston said the latest round of arrests are part of an ongoing crackdown on welfare fraud.

In a statement, Preston said the county is a "leader in detecting and arresting welfare fraud violators."

The arrests included several people who allegedly wrongly received more than $8100 in assistance.

Five arrests were related to people who did not report income, offered a false instrument for filing or forged instruments.

Preston said those who are aware of potential welfare system abuses may report them anonymously by calling 607.778.2519.
