Trading in shares of RadioShack on the New York Stock Exchange was suspended Monday.

There are RadioShack stores in the Oakdale Mall in Johnson City and on the Parkway in Vestal. Other stores are located in the Binghamton Plaza; in the Northgate Plaza in the town of Chenango; and in the Price Chopper Plaza in Endicott.

Employees of Broome County RadioShack locations this afternoon said they were not authorized to discuss the fate of their stores.

One news report indicated RadioShack may sell some of its store leases to Sprint under a bankruptcy deal.

Other reports suggested Amazon might consider acquiring some RadioShack stores.

In recent years, RadioShack has been trying to reposition its brand and adjust its product line in response to declining sales.

The company's first store opened in 1921.
