More Broome County residents may be able to offer their input at county public hearings in the future.

The legislature has voted unanimously to require public hearings for the legislature, executive branch or any other county department be held no earlier than 5 p.m.

The legislation was introduced following backlash from residents over a 2 p.m. hearing recently to discuss county employee salary levels. Many people complained that they were at work and could not take time off to attend a government public hearing.
