Libraries are more than just books these days and the diversity of the modern library is featured on the local, weekly public affairs program Southern Tier Close Up Saturday, March 5.

Broome County Public Library Youth Programs coordinator, Sarah Reid talks about upcoming programs that range from information on teacher retirement to kids reading to service dogs.

Reid also touches on the biggest challenge being faced by local libraries which is a reduction in funding, resulting in a reduction of staff.

Information on the programs and services in the local library system can be found  at the Broome County Public Library website: bclibrary.com.

Southern Tier Close Up can be heard Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
