SEPP Management Group, a Binghamton-based housing agency, has hired John Bernardo as its executive director.

Bernardo is scheduled to start work for SEPP in January. Jacqueline Gerchman has been serving as interim executive director. Anthony Fiala left the post early this year.

In a statement released by the agency, SEPP board of directors chairman David Harder said Bernardo "has a great deal of knowledge and expertise working with community organizations."

Bernardo has been a deputy county executive for about five years. He was Town of Union supervisor from 2005 through 2011.

SEPP oversees several large housing complexes in New York and Pennsylvania for seniors and the disabled. Its Broome County operations include units in Binghamton, Johnson City, Endwell and Whitney Point.
