The Broome County Legislature is poised to review proposals for the set-up of an office of energy development.

Two resolutions are to be presented to lawmakers this month that could set up the office as a division of the County Executive's office.

Some legislators have said, if approved, the department would primarily deal with the developing issue of future natural gas exploration in the region.

One of the resolutions says the proposed department would be in charge of studying and developing county policy for the promotion of all forms of energy development while delving into ways to conserve energy and reduce county costs.

The new office would be funded from the county industrial development agency and the hotel/motel tax reserve.

The proposals are expected to be taken up in committee meeting this week.

The full legislature meets on the 17th.
