A career criminal is back in jail after authorities say they tracked him down in connection with a car theft investigation.

Broome County Sheriff's officials say on May 23rd,a woman reported her Hyundai had been taken from her Town of Chenango home.  The woman told authorities she knew the man suspected of taking the car.

Investigators say 31 year old James McNeilly, who has a long criminal record and had recently been released from prison, was believed to have dumped the vehicle somewhere in the City of Binghamton.

When contacted by telephone, he told authorities he was not going to give the car back and was going into hiding.  He also said he would put up a fight if located.

McNeilly was taken into custody behind a home on Park Street in Johnson City following a brief foot chase and struggle with authorities. There were no injuries.

McNeilly is charged with felony grand larceny and resisting arrest.
