New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed legislation to name sections of state roads in memory of deceased law enforcement officers, including one in Broome County.

The bridges carrying Interstate 81 over U.S. Route 11 in the Town of Chenango are being named for New York State Trooper Christopher Skinner.

In May of last year, Skinner was allegedly purposely run down by a Florida man while the Trooper was conducting a routine traffic stop for a speed violation in a work zone.

Skinner was outside his vehicle when he was hit by the vehicle.

The legislation to name the north and south bound bridges the Christopher G. Skinner Memorial Bridge unanimously passed the Assembly and Senate in June.
