A volunteer firefighter is being treated for major injuries after being hit by a speeding car as he was trying to warn motorists about wires down across Rummerfield Creek Road in Standing Stone Township on the afternoon of August 10.

Pennsylvania State Police say 25 year old Herrickville volunteer firefighter, Clinton Houghtaling of Wyalusing was struck by the car and thrown about 50 feet, landing on the east side berm at 12:20 p.m.

19 year old Travis Taylor of Wyalusing is charged with aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, driving under the influence, underage drinking, driving on roadways laned for traffic, restrictions on his driver's license, speeding, careless driving, reckless driving, minor prohibited from operating with any alcohol in system.

Houghtaling was flown by helicopter to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.  Troopers say, at last report, Houghtaling was said to be in stable condition.

Taylor was sent to the Bradford County Jail on $20,000 bail.
