Bracco this afternoon announced he's chosen 47-year-old Scott Evans for the position of undersheriff.

Evans is a Binghamton native who worked for the Endicott police for more than two decades prior to his retirement from the department last year. Evans now is an investigator for the Broome County government Case Integrity Unit.

Bracco is a captain with the Binghamton Police Department. He's challenging Republican incumbent David Harder, who became sheriff in 1999.

Harder joined the Broome County sheriff's department more than a half-century ago. Harder says Alex Minor will continue to be undersheriff if he wins the November 4 election.

Harder and Bracco will face each other in a debate this Friday morning on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program. The discussion is scheduled to start at 10:10.
