Authorities say Broome County sheriff’s deputies were sent to 132 Stillwater Road in the town of Conklin around 5:49 p.m. Sunday.

Several additional agencies responded after the deputies confirmed a child was in the icy water near the home.

Officials say Conklin firefighter Nick Platt found the boy in the river and pulled him from the water. CPR was administered and the child was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City.

According to Lieutenant Ben Harting of the sheriff’s office, the incident is under investigation. He provided no additional details regarding how the boy wound up in the river.

Sheriff’s deputies were assisted by New York State Police, the Conklin Fire Department and New York State forest rangers, The Broome County Dive Team and firefighters from Kirkwood and Great Bend also provided assistance.
