A San Francisco company will be looking at Binghamton's parking issues.

Nelson/ Nygaard has been selected to perform the comprehensive downtown parking study.

According to a news release from the Mayor’s office, the California company will be expected to assess existing conditions and develop a strategic plan.

Mayor Richard David has said in the past that convenient and adequate parking is vital not only for the growing downtown residential properties but for chances of encouraging additional business development.

The Republican has acknowledged that businesses do not want to locate in an area where parking is not readily available for workers and customers.

The City has about $150,000 set aside for the study.

The selection of Nelson/ Nygaard still needs the approval of the Broome County Legislature.
