Galaxy Brewing Company plans to submit four entries for the upcoming World Beer Cup competition, which will be held in Philadelphia in May.

Co-owner Michael Weisel said one of the beers to be entered is a new creation. It's called Far Star Wine Barrel Saison. It's been aging in a 55-gallon wine barrel for about six months.

The barrel was wheeled along the sidewalk on Court Street from one section of the brewery to another on Monday for dry hopping. The beer should be ready to be sampled at Galaxy sometime next week.

Although the upcoming competition will take place in Philadelphia, the beer entries must be transported to Colorado. Weisel plans to drive the samples to Denver early next month.

The competition is held every two years. Weisel said it's "really the Olympics for brewers."

Judging for the World Beer Cup will take place starting May 3 and awards will be announced at a ceremony on May 6.

Galaxy Brewing Company co-owners Michael and Seth Weisel will discuss the upcoming competition on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program Wednesday morning at 11:15.
