The City of Binghamton is having a video inspection done on flood wall conduits after discovering that required inspections had not been done in 2012.

The mayor’s office says the City was notified it had until April 30 to get the work done to prevent having floods walls reclassified as unacceptable.

If the walls were to be reclassified, officials in the mayor’s office say it would jeopardize future federal funding.

It’s estimated it will take about two weeks to inspect and compile a report on the 54 conduits in the City’s levee system.

The inspection, being done by JAMKO Technical Solutions of  Lyons, New York, was originally estimated to cost $100,000.

Officials say the number of pipes that needed to be inspected turned out to be less, resulting in a final cost estimate of $55,000.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funds are covering the cost.
