Binghamton’s Budget is Approved
Taxes in the City of Binghamton will go up .48% after City Council voted 5-0 to approve Republican Mayor Richard David’s first proposed budget.
Two council members were absent.
A big push in the ledger was for more focus on police and fire services.
Council members said they looked to cut close to $130,000 in spending from the originally presented plan but there were few options for reductions.
The mayor has said public safety and infrastructure repairs have been a priority since he launched his campaign.
David points to the utilization of several grants, leaving some open jobs unfilled and a transfer of funds as ways quality of life and safety initiatives have been financed.
