As the "winter that wasn't" draws to a close, city of Binghamton workers have been busy doing some early spring cleaning downtown.

Parks and Recreation Department employees have been clearing debris that accumulated over the last few months.

Several varieties of flowers will be planted soon around the downtown business district.

Tina Edwards, who spent one recent afternoon working at the Court Street roundabout, said she's heard from many people who've been pleased to see the flowers around Binghamton during the spring and summer months.

The city has started to grow its own flowers as part of an ongoing beautification program.

After flowers have been planted, a specially-equipped truck is used to water them every weekday.
