Some students in the Binghamton City School District are looking to help children who suffer from facial deformities to finally be able to smile. The students participated in a basketball-throwing contest called 'Hoops for Smiles' to raise funds for Smile Train. The organization corrects cleft lip and palate deformities in children around the world.

Sponsors signed on to raise $1 per basket up to $1,000.

Students enrolled in the school's special education program served lunch to staff in the Smile Train Cafe. The students also provided lunch-time entertainment.

Teachers have been including the smile concept in their lessons with student work decorating the hallways.  West Middle Principal Michael Holly each day read smile quotes during morning announcements.
