A video seen on some national news broadcasts this week showing a young woman’s car being carjacked at a gas station and the woman being forced into the vehicle records the December 30 ordeal of a 23-year-old Binghamton University graduate student.

Rachel Stephenson was pumping gas in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania as she was headed back to Binghamton from the holiday break when 18-year-old Raliek Aminkal Chambers reportedly jumped into her car.

She tried to retrieve her pets from the back of the car, telling him he could have the vehicle, but he grabbed her and pulled her into the car.

At one point, Stephenson said her captor allowed her to use her cell phone to set GPS coordinates and she sent a text to her boyfriend at that time.

After 2 hours, Stephenson managed get free at a gas stop in Frackville, Pennsylvania and Chambers was taken into custody about an hour later.

Authorities say Stephenson reported that she had been hit in the face and her hair pulled during the ordeal.

The woman’s car and all her belongings, including her cats, were returned to her after Chambers was apprehended.
