Binghamton University President Doctor Harvey Stenger was recently appointed by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo as co-chair of the Southern Tier Regional Economic Development Council.

Speaking on the Southern Tier Close Up airing December 15th, Dr. Stenger says the panel has identified priority projects that could be eligible for state funding. That list still needs the governor's approval which Stenger says he expects to happen before the end of the year.

Stenger also talked about the increasing roles of institutes of education like B.U. in partnering with private business and developing technologies for local companies and Binghamton University's SUNY Best program that provides a more stream-lined and quicker path toward finalizing those partnerships. Binghamton's SUNY Best program is now to be replicated in the five county Mohawk Valley region.

Southern Tier Close Up airs Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
