Binghamton University is getting closed to $3 million to continue work at its smart energy facility.

The New York SUNY 2020 Economic Development Plan Grant will allow for development of better lithium batteries with $2.8 million in improvements and equipment.

The upgrades are also expected to result in more private company interest in investing in the energy development projects.

Binghamton University President Doctor Harvey Stenger said he expected dozens of companies to sign on.
