Binghamton Mayor Richard David says the conversion of street lights to LED technology is looking to have huge environmental and financial impact in the City.

David says the new lights are providing better illumination at a lower cost to the City.

Binghamton has invested $4 million in the conversion of 7,000 street lights.

According to the Mayor’s office, the City is expecting to save 3,160,477 kilowatt hours in electricity each year, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by three million pounds a year.

David says in 15 years, the City is expected to save $5.2 million in electricity and $1 million in maintenance costs.
