Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]A Binghamton teenager is accused of stealing a vehicle from a driveway in Chenango Bridge, making charges on the victim’s credit card, leading Broome County Sheriff’s officials on a chase through several streets in the City of Binghamton at a high rate of speed before finally crashing into the porch of a home and a vehicle on Mitchell Avenue.

16 year old Peter Smith Junior admitted stealing the Subaru when he found the keys inside the car.

At 5:06 a.m. June 2, the homeowner called authorities to report his vehicle was missing from his driveway.

While Deputies were on their way, the victim received notification from his credit card company that unauthorized charges had been made.

A relative left the home to look for the Subaru and saw it getting onto Route 81 south and the Deputy changed course, taking off after the car with lights and siren activated. But the driver refused to pull over.

The chase went through several streets on the South Side of Binghamton with the driver ignoring traffic lights and stop signs before losing control and crashing.

Smith is charged with two felony grand larceny counts involving vehicle and credit card theft, misdemeanor reckless endangerment and fleeing a police officer and 9 traffic violations. More charges are pending.

He was sent to the Broome County Jail without bail.
