Some of the finishing touches on downtown Binghamton's Court Street Gateway project were being applied as the region braced for the rain and winds expected from Sandy.

Striping along the city's main thoroughfare was being done by workers on Friday.

The pavement markings include the lines for several diagonal parking spaces on Court Street, just west of State Street.

Immediately after the white or yellow paint was sprayed onto the street, fine glass beads were sprinkled over the markings to provide a reflective quality to the striping.

Work on the $2.7 million project, which includes infrastructure improvements, began last March.
