City officials have said the facility will replace an outdated water fountain on the Carroll Street side of the park.

The fountain, which had not been designed for swimming, attracted children during hot weather. Officials say that posed health and safety concerns.

The spray park project received a financial boost from a $15,000 donation from the Binghamton Rotary Club. Additional money is coming from state and federal sources.

Officials have said the project will be completed before the start of the summer park season.
