Republican Senator Fred Akshar of Binghamton has written a lengthy open letter to Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins of Yonkers, congratulating her on her election as Senate Majority Leader but saying one party controlling all branches of government and the leadership in each branch, centered around New York City, could create "unease for representatives and residents from every other region of our state."

Democrats won the majority in the Senate this month, putting the party in control of the Senate, Assembly and in the Governor's office.

In his letter to Stewart-Cousins, Akshar says as the next Majority Leader of the Senate, the downstate Democrat is no longer only accountable for the people of the 3th District but for all residents of the State.

Akshar promises to work with her and extended an invitation for the new leader to visit the Southern Tier where he would introduce her to local small business owners, farmers and families.
