Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]Binghamton City School District officials say they are still expecting the new MacArthur Elementary School will be ready for classes in just over a year from now.

Construction of the replacement for the flood-damaged school on the city's South Side is continuing.

District officials say there has been substantial progress on the Vestal Avenue project, which had been delayed for several months by a State Education Department review.

Underground utility work at the site is planned for next week.

Officials have said while the school could be sufficiently completed for classes to start in September 2015, the project likely won't be finished at that time. They say finishing touches on sections of the school would continue even after classes get underway.
