Broome County's annual celebration of Irish culture will get underway Saturday, more than two weeks before Saint Patrick's Day.

The big parade in Binghamton is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. It was begin at Court and Fayette streets and proceed west to Main and Arthur streets.

Pipe bands, Irish dance groups, floats, along with youth marching groups will participate. Representatives from Broome County police and fire departments will march. They'll be joined by many local elected officials.

The traditional Parade Day Mass is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at Saint Mary of the Assumption Church on Fayette Street.

A post-parade party is to be held at Seton Catholic Central High School on Seminary Avenue from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Binghamton officials say disorderly conduct and interference with parade participants won't be tolerated.

Open alcohol containers will be permitted only in specially-designated areas, including parts of State Street.
